In pursuit of a new goal

"Travel makes one modest.  You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world." -- Gustav Flaubert

As you may have gathered from this blog over the years, I love to travel, explore new places, learn about history and culture different than mine, and see beautiful spaces.  So I've set a new goal -- to travel to 20 different countries/places by the time I am 60 (about 13 years from now), spending at least a week (this is a lot for an American) in each place, and with a goal of as much immersion as possible in that period of time.  This averages to about one trip every nine months or so, which provides time to read about the history and sights (beyond the few pages you may get in a typical travel guide) and, to the extent possible, learn a bit of the language since that always enriches your experience.

My first trip starts in a few hours with Lithuania as the destination.  It was somewhat randomly chosen as I have been there on a quick overnight trip for business years ago, I know some amazing people who are Lithuanian, it's European so in my comfort zone, and didn't require too much time or too many flights to get there.

If all goes well with my technology set-up, I hope to add some posts while I am there.  If not, it'll happen when I return.  I'll also be posting a few pictures on Facebook and Instagram, but they won't capture that interesting stories and background that I hope I will encounter.

So stay tuned!
